Cloud Dough - Favorite Friday

Friday, January 6, 2012

Come here each Friday to view my favorite pick from my Pinterest Boards and read how it went in our home.  This week I am sharing moldable sand from The Imagination Tree. It is also known as cloud dough, and my daughter has renamed it snow dough.  Just know that this is FUN dough.

This dough scored big in our house.  It is super simple to make with only two ingredients - flour and baby oil.  It's a no cook dough.  We love the baby oil fragrance.  Did any of you ever marvel at the softness of Mr. Roger's sand in his sandbox?  This dough replicates what I imagined Mr. Roger's sand to be.

I halved the recipe to be 2 1/2 cups flour to 1/2 cup baby oil, and it was just enough for one child.  If you have more than one child, make the full recipe.  Your child can help you mix it with her hands.  I gathered an assortment of materials to play with the dough.  Seriously, you could spend hours just savoring the feel of it without needing all the bells and whistles.  My daughter loves animals, and I try to include them in most of her play.  I suggest using small plastic animals without holes.

Miss E spent lots of time playing snow storm and burying animals beneath the snow.  A superhero animal came to the rescue digging out the trapped creature.  She loved using the cloud dough to help her imaginative play.  I showed her how I could make molded shapes with cups, but she was thoroughly entranced with her snow play and only gave a brief moment to consider my idea.  She relished the tactile sensory experience with this dough.

I would definitely recommend moldable sand to other families.  If you are concerned about mess, we used a blanket underneath our play to contain spills.  I shook the blanket outside after play.  Miss E did get the dough on her clothes, and we removed the clothes after play and shook them out.

TIFW - While I don't mind messy play, I do try to prevent too much mess. ;) No one likes to clean.

Anytime, Anna! Your dough recipes are always a hit in our house. I had to look up the spelling in the dictionary since I wasn't quite sure if your spelling was how it was spelled here.
